On August 11 & 12, a few of our MXR girls worked together with some girls from MHS's STEMgirls club in a VEX Robotics Workshop at Google, and it turned out a hundred times better than we could have imagined.
That weekend, Nikita and I joined STEMgirls Tran, Sinai, and Sarah in making a VEX bot. In just two days, we built, coded, and competed with a VEX clawbot - a fairly simple design, but a lot of fun to make in such a small amount of time. Personally, I haven't really worked on a robot like that since my freshman year, and I realized I missed it. I've missed the feeling of nuts and screws digging into my fingers, the exhilerating yet stressful knowledge that "we are competing in an hour yet the robot doesn't work yet!", and that amazing rush of pride when the robot does decide to work. Needless to say, it was a really fun experience.
What really made this workshop all the better for our team, G44, was the fact that we became finalists in a competition of 112 teams, out of over 500 girls.
A few weeks later, the Milpitas School Board recognized our team at a meeting, putting the icing on the cake for us. After that, Milpitas Xtreme Robotics hopes to start a Girl Powered VEX Robotics team within our club to give more members that same feeling we felt at competition!
