Vex Robotics Competition
VEX is a competition in which we build and code a small robot, compete in a team, and complete tasks to gain points. This is our fifth year competing in VEX and our team is only getting better.
This year, our main team, 1669X will be carrying on from last year's stellar performance! Our team are looking forward to competing and mentoring our inexperienced members this year. We all look forward to seeing where we'll go in as a VEX team!
Sportsmanship Award
1669X won this award at our very first competition, February 2019. We never expected to make it as far as we did, but it was a welcome surprise and inspired us to work even harder than before.
Inspire Award
1669X won this award at the Dublin robotics competition, October 2019. We won this award because the judges thought we were inspiring through our approach to robotics.
Sportsmanship Award
1669Y won this award at the Vanden Robotics Tower Takeover competition, December 2019. The judges were impressed by our enthusiasm and work ethic.
Past Efforts
(Will return soon)
First Tech Challenge
The FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition hosted by FIRST Inspires, one of the most popular robotics organizations out there. FIRST hosts 4 different competition divisions, but we only participate in FTC (grades 7 -12).
In FTC competitions, 16 teams and their separate robots compete for the top spot. Alliances are randomly chosen and contain 2 teams. In every qualification round, two alliances (red and blue) compete against each other for the most points. Eventually, the top 8 teams move on to Semi-finals, where the finalists are chosen.

Judges
Award
We won this award at the Piedmont qualifying tournament, December 2019. This was our first FTC competition in 2 years, as we did not get to compete last year. The judges gave us this award as they felt we were unique in our efforts and performance.
Combat Robotics
In combat robotics, two robots are placed in an arena and compete against each other, while their respective drivers are controlling them from outside the arena.
Our combat robotics team is fairly new, created in 2019, but everyone on it has shown extreme dedication and commitment while working on the robots. During the 2019-2020 school year, we only had two robots, a 3-pounder, and 1-pounder. Next year we hope to have more.
Innovation Award
Our robot Kratos won this award at the inaugural NRL Sacramento competition, January 2020. This was our club's first Combat Robotics competition. The judges gave us this award because they felt our team implemented an innovative solution when building our robot.
E-Bike
Bike to the Future, an electrical bike competition, is run by Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE). In 2018, our ebike Nikola came in last after facing many obstacles and setbacks. However, this year has shown remarkable improvement.
In 2019, our team built a new bike, Nikola 2.0, not only placed 4th in the Battery flux Challenge, which tested the durability of our lithium-ion battery made from scratch, but also performed well in the Acceleration challenge, going from 0 mph to 20 mph in only 5 seconds. In the span of one year, we went from dead last to winning. We hope to see even more progress next year!
Drone
Our drone team has been working tirelessly on their drone since February 2020. Since they sought out to make a fixed-wing model aircraft they have found all the parts they needed and thoroughly planned out the drone before building. The week before Night Fury's maiden voyage was a hectic one, to say the least, everyone was buzzing, excited to see the new creation. The maiden voyage was ultimately a success after a few technical difficulties. Our team has enjoyed this experience and hopes, next year, to participate in the REC foundation Ariel Drone Competition.
Hackathons
While many of our members had previously attended hackathons, MXR did not start a hackathon team until 2019. Since its creation, many of our members have joined the hackathon team, gone to hackathons, and even won awards.
